2-Ethyl-4,5-dimethyloxazole is a diluent that is used to lower the boiling point of other compounds so that they will evaporate more easily. It is also used as a solvent for paints and varnishes. 2-Ethyl-4,5-dimethyloxazole has a sweet taste and produces profiles with aliphatic and imidazole compounds at low concentrations. The compound can be found in solvents such as gasoline, benzene, alcohols, acetone, ethers, and chloroform. It has been shown to have volatility when it's heated up or exposed to air. 2-Ethyl-4,5-dimethyloxazole can also be found in solid phase microextraction (SPME) samples or headspace samples of oils and natural gas products.
