(Ethylthio)acetic acid is a radionuclide that is used as an extractant in organic solutions. It has been found to be useful as an extractant of fatty acids, alkanoic acids, nitrogen atoms and aliphatic hydrocarbons. (Ethylthio)acetic acid is a conjugate base of hydrochloric acid and glycol ester, which can be synthesized by reacting ethylthiol with acetic acid. The structural formula for (ethylthio)acetic acid is shown below:
