It has been shown to inhibit the activity of p-glycoprotein, which is an efflux pump protein, and Bcl-2 protein. EPMB has also been shown to cause apoptosis in human squamous cell carcinoma cells in a concentration dependent manner. This compound has shown potential as a treatment for cancer because it inhibits the ability of cancer cells to proliferate by binding to the NMDA receptor.
