This inhibition prevents degradation of VIP, which is important for the regulation of blood vessel tone. The compound has been shown to be effective against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Claviceps purpurea. O-Ethoxybenzoyl chloride has been shown to have a high level of tolerance in plants and animals. It also has been found to be safe for humans with its low toxicity levels and low acute toxicity. It is not classified as hazardous by the World Health Organization (WHO).
