3-Ethyl-4-methyl-3-pyrrolin-2-one is a sulfonated dione that can be synthesized from chloroformates. The product yields are high and the compound is stable to heat, light, and hydrolysis. The compound crystallizes in a single pure form and does not contain any impurities. 3-Ethyl-4-methyl-3-pyrrolin-2-one has been used as a precursor for the synthesis of various other organic compounds.
