The nmr spectrum of this compound shows three distinct signals, which correspond to the three possible stereoisomers: enolate, trisubstituted, and nucleophilic. These signals are due to the different methylene groups on the molecule. The active methylene group is responsible for alkylation reactions and carbon disulphide formation.
