Descripción

Ergocryptine is a drug that is used to treat Parkinson’s disease. It is an active metabolite of the ergot alkaloid ergometrine. It has been shown in studies using polyclonal antibodies and casein to inhibit spontaneous activity in rats, as well as citric acid production from perennial ryegrass. Ergocryptine also inhibits biosynthesis of ergocryptine and chemical ionization of peptones from purpurea strain. It is structurally similar to ergometrine, but it does not have the same physiological effects because it lacks the methyl group on the nitrogen atom at position 2.
