Ethyl 6-aminonicotinate is a potent and selective antagonist of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (M1 subtype). It has been shown to block the binding of acetylcholine to the M1 receptor in immunoassays. This agent also has high chemical stability, which makes it an excellent candidate for synthesis. The linker between the amino group and carboxylate moiety is a piperidine ring, which can be replaced with other types of linkers such as a piperazine ring.
