Ethyl 4,4-difluoroacetoacetate is an organic compound that belongs to the group of pyrazole derivatives. It has been used as a raw material for the synthesis of new active methylene compounds. Ethyl 4,4-difluoroacetoacetate reacts with chloride in the presence of an inorganic base to form a chloroethyl enolate. This reaction can be carried out at room temperature and provides a high selectivity for the formation of products with a hydroxyl group on the methylene carbon. The chloroethyl enolate can then be reacted with sodium carbonate to produce ethyl 3-chloropropionate and sodium chloride. The reaction yield is about 100%.
