Ethyl 1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylate is a heterocyclic compound that belongs to the benzothiazole family. This compound has a dihedral angle of 180° and a planar structure. It can be found in two different crystalline forms, one with an ordered molecular packing and the other with an disordered molecular packing. The compound is present in yields of up to 60% when heated at 180°C for 5 hours. Ethyl 1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylate is also used as a catalyst in organic chemistry reactions. The hydrogen bonds formed between this compound and the benzene ring are responsible for its catalytic properties.
