This compound also has been used in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives as well as a catalyst in organic reactions. Ethyl 4,4,4-trichloroacetoacetate has been shown to be effective in treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
