4'-Ethoxybenzylidene-4-butylaniline is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to treat pain and inflammation. It has a phase transition temperature of about -30°C. This drug binds to the protonated form of 4'-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (4'-HPAA) which may be involved in the molecular mechanism by which it reduces pain and inflammation. The binding leads to an increase in the population of 4'-HPAA, which is metabolized by oxidation reactions. These reactions can be monitored using nmr spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The metabolic profiles are different for women and men, due to differences in blood sampling times. Women generally have higher levels of 4'-HPAA than men, which means they may respond differently to this drug.
