It is used as a synthon in the synthesis of biologically active compounds, such as cholesterol and prostaglandins. This compound has shown bioactivity in human lung cells, including cytotoxicity and induction of apoptosis. Ethyl 4-fluorocinnamate also demonstrates chemopreventive properties against lung carcinomas by inhibiting proliferation and inducing cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase.
