Endothelin-1, human is a protein that belongs to the endothelin family of peptides. It is a potent vasoconstrictor and has been implicated in a number of biological processes such as blood pressure regulation, bowel disease, and pulmonary hypertension. Endothelin-1, human is produced by the endothelial cells in response to injury or other stimuli. The production of this peptide can be modulated by epigenetic modifiers. Endothelin-1, human has been shown to have significant upregulation in squamous cell carcinoma cells and primary pulmonary hypertension patients. The function of endothelin-1, human is mediated by its receptor (ET) which binds to guanine nucleotide binding proteins (G proteins).
