Eupalinolide K is a stilbene natural product that has been shown to have antiviral activity. It has been found to inhibit the replication of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), and influenza A viruses in vitro. Eupalinolide K also has an anticomplement effect, which may be due to its ability to bind to C3b or C4b and prevent them from forming complexes with other components of the complement system. This inhibition prevents the activation of the complement system, which is important for immune function. The compound also inhibits necrosis factor activity induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and blocks LPS-induced acute lung injury in mice.
