1-Ethynylpyrene is a cycloalkenyl group that belongs to the aromatic hydrocarbon class. It has been shown to bind with phosphazene and crystalline cellulose, inhibiting the production of nitric oxide and preventing the development of liver cancer in rats. 1-Ethynylpyrene has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on naphthalene-induced toxicity in rats. The binding constants for 1-ethynylpyrene are relatively high, which is due to its hydrogen bonding properties. NMR spectroscopy has been used to identify the magnetic resonance properties of 1-ethynylpyrene, which show low energy levels and activation energies.
