It functions primarily by disrupting microtubule dynamics within the cell. During the metaphase of cell division, taxanes stabilize the microtubule polymer, preventing their depolymerization. This action effectively halts the replication of cancer cells by interfering with the normal process of mitotic spindle formation, thereby inducing apoptosis through prolonged mitotic arrest.
