14:0 PS is an orally active, excipient-free formulation of the fatty acid 14:0 that has been shown to inhibit the expression of p-gp. The effect of 14:0 PS on the activity of membrane proteins was determined by titration calorimetry and thermodynamic assays. In addition, its interactions with other fatty acids were examined by acyl chain binding studies. These interactions are thought to be responsible for the observed inhibition of p-gp activity. 14:0 PS is also a substrate for annexin A2, which can be used as a marker for cellular uptake.
