Prostephanaberrine is a natural product that belongs to the class of stephane diterpenes. It can be obtained by reduction of the nitro group in hernandolinol and axial biphenyl with sodium borohydride, followed by an esterification reaction with alcohols. Prostephanaberrine has been shown to have a chiral carbon atom, which may be due to the biosynthesis pathway in which it is formed. This compound also has strong antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens.
