4-Fluoro-4-((4-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-methoxycyclohexyl)amino)butyrophenone hydrochloride (aka 4FMPH) is a catecholamine neuron blocker that has antipsychotic effects. It blocks the binding of dopamine to dopamine receptors in the brain, which prevents the onset of psychosis. 4FMPH is used to treat schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. This drug has high therapeutic potential because it has low toxicity and does not cause extrapyramidal symptoms. The onset of action for this drug is between six hours and two weeks, with an average of about two weeks. 4FMPH acts by blocking neurotransmitter release from presynaptic neurons, but its exact mechanism of action is not known. The most common side effect associated with this drug is sedation, which can be managed by using a benzodiazepine such as chlorpromazine or fluphenazine.
