Fluopicolide is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that has been used for pest control. The high toxicity of this compound has led to the development of resistant strains, which have been detected in the field and laboratory. Fluopicolide is a synergist with other pesticides, and can be used to control resistant strains. The use of fluopicolide as an insecticide is limited by its high toxicity and potential for causing chronic exposure. The chemical structure of this compound was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, revealing the presence of terminal residues that are not present in natural pyrethroid compounds. These terminal residues may play a role in the increased resistance to fluopicolide.
