Descripción

Vonoprazan is a prodrug that is converted to the active form, vonoprazan fumarate, in the gut. It has a chemical stability of over 2 weeks and can be administered as a single dose. Vonoprazan fumarate inhibits bacterial methyltransferase enzymes responsible for converting tetracycline into its active form. In combination with other antibiotics, this drug can be used to treat methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. Vonoprazan also inhibits drug efflux pumps and can reduce the stress on the liver caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Vonoprazan has been shown to have an effect on body mass index and increases weight loss in obese patients.
