3-fluoro-4-methoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid (1) is a chiral probe for the asymmetric synthesis of carboxylic acid derivatives. In this process, the chiral amine 1 is immobilized on a suitable support and then reacted with 4-methoxyphenylboronic acid in the presence of diethyl zinc as a catalyst to produce the desired product. A related reaction involving an amide and diethyl zinc as catalyst has been reported. The 3-fluoro-4-methoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid (1) was synthesized by alkylation of 4-methoxyphenylboronic acid with bromoacetaldehyde.
