2-Fluoro-4-iodopyridine-3-carbaldehyde is a palladium inhibitor. It is used in an annulation reaction with arynes to produce optically pure products. 2-Fluoro-4-iodopyridine-3-carbaldehyde inhibits the hydrolytic activity of the enzyme, which is an important step in metabolic pathways, and also inhibits the activity of the palladium catalyst. This compound provides efficient synthesis of primary alcohols from aldehydes or ketones. The mechanism of inhibition by 2-fluoro-4-iodopyridine 3 carbaldehyde is based on competitive binding to the active site of the enzyme and steric hindrance.
