1-fluoro-3-iodo-2-methoxybenzene is a reactive intermediate that can be used for the synthesis of functionalized heterocycles. The compound can react with butyl lithium to yield the corresponding unsymmetrical ketone in high yields. 1-fluoro-3-iodo-2-methoxybenzene reacts preferentially with methoxy groups and is more reactive than 1,1,1,3,3,3,-hexafluoroacetone. It was synthesized from 3,4,5,6-tetrafluorobenzaldehyde and iodomethane in a regioselective manner. A functional group such as fluorine or chlorine can be added to the molecule to activate it for cyclization reactions.
