(5-Formyl-2-methoxyphenyl)boronic acid is a non-peptide compound that is an intermediate in the synthesis of thrombopoietin. It has been shown to have a pharmacologic effect on human platelets, inhibiting their proliferation and inducing thrombocytopenia. (5-Formyl-2-methoxyphenyl)boronic acid mimics the effects of thrombopoietin by binding to the same receptors as this hormone. This agent has been used to study the mechanism of action of thrombopoietin in humans, which involves its ability to stimulate erythropoiesis and activate platelets.
