2-Formylhydrazinecarbothioamide is a bioactive molecule that has been shown to have antiviral and anticarcinogenic activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of animal viruses in cell culture, including influenza A, Newcastle disease virus, and vesicular stomatitis virus. 2-Formylhydrazinecarbothioamide also inhibits the production of carcinogenic molecules that are produced by tobacco smoke, such as nitrosamines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The molecular structure of 2-formylhydrazinecarbothioamide is similar to ethionamide, which is an antituberculosis drug. This similarity may be responsible for its anti-tuberculosis activity.
2-Formylhydrazinecarbothioamide is structurally related to ethionamide (1) through hydrogen bonding with the amide nitrogen atoms in both molecules. The antibacterial activity of 2-formylhydrazinecarbothioamide
