(9H-Fluoren-9-yl)methyl2,4-dichloro-7,8-dihydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine-6(5H)-carboxylate is a prodrug that is metabolized to the active form of the drug, 9-[(fluorenylmethoxy)carbonyl]-2,4-dichloro-7,8-dihydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine. This compound binds to receptors in the pancreas and gastrointestinal tract and reduces gastric acid secretion. It also has significant binding to receptors in the nervous system. The drug may be used for treatment of pancreatic disorders such as diabetes mellitus. It may also be used for treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcers or gastritis.
