Descripción:5-Fluoro-2-picolinic acid (5FPA) is a picolinic acid derivative that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. 5FPA binds to the chloride ion, which disrupts the proton gradient across the bacterial cell membrane and inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria. This compound is also active against fungi and parasites, suggesting that it may be useful as an agricultural or clinical agent. 5FPA has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacteria in clinical studies. The conformational flexibility of 5FPA makes it an ideal ligand as it can bind to different types of binding sites on proteins. This property may be utilized for the development of novel pharmaceuticals with new therapeutic properties.
