Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate is an iron supplement that is used for the treatment of iron deficiency. Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate is a mineral supplement that contains iron in the form of ferrous sulfate and hydrated to produce a crystalline compound with a heptahydrate formula. The supplement has been shown to increase the levels of hemoglobin, red blood cells, and serum iron in animals. It also inhibits chronic cough and hepatitis. Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate has also been used in Chinese medicine preparations to treat viral infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus and Hepatitis C virus. This drug can be found in over-the-counter products that are marketed to improve energy metabolism or to treat systemic diseases such as colonic adenocarcinoma or maternal blood loss during childbirth.
