Florfenicol-d3 is a fluorescent version of florfenicol that can be used as an analytical tool for detecting tetracycline resistance in bacteria. Florfenicol-d3 binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, preventing the attachment of amino acids to form proteins. The matrix effect and polymerase chain reaction are used to measure drug activity. A concentration-time curve is generated by incubating samples with different concentrations of florfenicol and measuring the change in enzyme activities or cytosolic Ca2+ levels. Thermodynamic data are also collected using crystalline cellulose.
