3-Fluorobenzoic acid is a hydrogen bond donor and a weak acid. It has been found to exist in two polymorphic forms, alpha and beta. FTIR spectroscopy has been used to study the hydrogen bonding in the alpha form. Deuterium isotope substitution experiments have been used to show that the proton binding constants of 3-fluorobenzoic acid are stronger than those for 2-fluorobenzoic acid. The synthesis methods for 3-fluorobenzoic acid include hydrolysis of fluoroacetic anhydride with potassium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid and the reaction of benzoyl chloride with sodium hydroxide. Hydroxy group, proton, and binding constants are some of its properties. Hydroxyl group is present on one side of the molecule while a chloro group is on the other side. One end contains a fluorine atom while the other a trifluoro
