Flumorph is a fungicide that contains the active ingredient prothioconazole. It is used as a seed treatment and as a soil drench to protect plants from fungal diseases. Flumorph inhibits the synthesis of chitin, which is an important component of the cell walls of fungi. The chlorine atom in flumorph reacts with the amide group on the molecule and forms an intermediate compound that reacts with actin filaments and causes them to break apart. This prevents cell division, leading to cell death. Flumorph has genotoxic effects, which may be due to its ability to bind to DNA and form adducts with thymidine residues. These adducts can lead to mutations in DNA and cancer cells.
