Descripción:3-Fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoic acid is a metabolite of benzoate in microorganisms. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme β-ketoacyl CoA synthase, which is responsible for fatty acid synthesis. 3-Fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoic acid binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents the formation of acyl coenzyme A from acetyl CoA and malonyl CoA, thereby inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. This compound also binds to the nonheme iron in the enzyme, preventing its oxidation by protonation. The hydroxyl group in 3-fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoic acid is thought to coordinate with the metal ion in the active site of β-ketoacyl CoA synthase, stabilizing it and allowing for a tighter binding between these two molecules.
