1-(2-Furyl)hexan-1-one is a rate enhancement agent used in polymerization reactions. It has been shown to have the ability to enhance the rate of radical polymerization, and is also used for normalizing rates during radical polymerization. It is an effective bifunctional reagent that can be used as a reactive diluent, and has been shown to produce oxidation products such as aldehydes. 1-(2-Furyl)hexan-1-one is used in polymeric matrix formulations, where it acts as an enhancer or crosslinker. The reaction intermediates produced by this compound are radicals that can be scavenged by other compounds.
