Fmoc-D-gln-OH is a hydrophobic amide that has bactericidal activity. It is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their cell walls and disrupting the cell membrane. Fmoc-D-gln-OH has been shown to be active against Staphylococcus, Propionibacterium, and Isosteres. This drug binds to the δ opioid receptor in bacteria and prevents them from synthesizing proteins required for cell wall biosynthesis, leading to cell death. Fmoc-D-gln-OH also has macrocyclic substitutions that can be replaced with other amino acids with different properties. These substitutions are designed to make this drug more potent or have a longer half life.
