Fmoc-O-tert-butyl-L-beta-homotyrosine is a hydrophobic molecule that is synthesized through the reaction of cyclopentyl, piperidine, and trifluoroacetic acid. The synthesis is completed with the use of chemical ligation. This molecule has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of guanine nucleotide binding proteins such as G protein alpha subunit (Gαs) and G protein beta subunit (Gβγ), which regulate cellular signaling pathways. Fmoc-O-tert-butyl-L-beta-homotyrosine has also been shown to have antihypertensive properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit phosphotyrosyl phosphodiesterase, an enzyme that degrades cGMP.
