It has been shown to have an effect on the central nervous system and is used as a sedative or hypnotic. 6-Fluoro-3-(1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridin-4-yl)-1H-indole has also been found to cause respiratory depression in animals. This drug binds to the c1–c4 alkoxy group of the GABA receptor in the brain and inhibits the binding of GABA which causes an increase in levels of this neurotransmitter and can lead to convulsions.
