This chemical has been shown to inhibit the activity of this enzyme by binding to its active site and blocking the synthesis of nitric oxide. 2F5N has been synthesized using solid-phase methodology, which involves the use of a polymer resin support for the synthesis of complex molecules. The 2F5N was synthesized from sodium sulfide and two equivalents of 5-fluoronitrobenzaldehyde in refluxing trifluoroacetic acid. 2F5N has also been shown to have neuroprotective properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit nitric oxide production in neuronal cells.
