Descripción:L-Fucono-gamma-lactone is a compound that has been identified as a possible antibiotic for the treatment of multidrug resistant bacteria. L-Fucono-gamma-lactone inhibits the growth of bacterial cells by binding to the enzyme 4-deoxy-L-fucose dehydrogenase, which catalyzes the conversion of 4-deoxy-L-fucose to L-fuconate. This binding prevents the formation of L-fuconate, which is required for cell growth. The structural biology and bioinformatics analysis have shown that L-Fucono gamma lactone may be an effective inhibitor of bacterial enzymes, such as dehydrogenases and hexokinases. These enzymes are important for maintaining cellular energy levels and preventing cell death.
