2-Fluoro-5-nitropyridine (2-FP) is an alkaline compound that reacts with alcohols and amines. It has been isolated from the reaction of glycine with nitric acid. Spectroscopic techniques have shown that 2-FP absorbs in the UV region, which is typical for carboxylic acids. 2-FP can be converted to 2-fluoropyridine by hydrolysis with aqueous hydrochloric acid. 2-FP reacts with amines and n-terminal amino groups to form peptides, which are used in techniques such as mass spectrometry. The reactivity of this compound is determined by its acidic properties.
