2-Fluoroquinoline is an organic compound belonging to the class of fluoroquinolones. It has been shown to inhibit chronic pulmonary inflammatory diseases and autoimmune disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease. 2-Fluoroquinoline inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits bacterial growth by binding to bacterial disulfide bonds. This agent also binds to human pathogens, including skin and eye pathogens, which may be due to its antimicrobial activity and ability to inhibit DNA synthesis. 2-Fluoroquinoline has also been shown to be effective in treating skin cancer caused by exposure to ultraviolet light or other sources of radiation. The mechanism of this drug's action is not fully understood but is thought to involve a reaction with oxygen radicals that are generated during cellular respiration.
