4-Fluorobenzylurea (4FB) is an alkylating agent that is used in the treatment of cancer and other diseases. 4FB is a synthetic compound whose mechanism of action is not completely understood. It has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial function by activating the caspase cascade, which leads to apoptotic cell death. 4FB also has anticancer activity, which may be due to its ability to activate apoptosis in cancer cells. 4FB binds to the tumor suppressor protein p53 and inhibits the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL. This inhibition leads to an increase in caspase activation, leading to apoptotic cell death.
