- 2-Fluoroprop-2-Enal
2-Fluoro-2-Propenal is a vinyl ether that is used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. It has been shown to undergo deoxyribose degradation, and form 2,6-difluorobenzoquinone (DFBQ) and dihydrochloride (DHC). DFBQ can be metabolized by bacteria or fungi to form reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are harmful to cells. 2-Fluoro-2-Propenal has been shown to inhibit tumour growth in cell lines, but not normal cells. This may be due to its ability to inhibit the biosynthesis of thymidylate, which is needed for DNA replication and repair.
