4-Fluoro-Azobenzene is a colorless liquid with a sweet smell. It is soluble in water and many organic solvents. 4-Fluoro-Azobenzene has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of some dyes, cinnamates, and pharmaceuticals. The chemical's main use is as a solvent for nitrocellulose and other plastics.

4-Fluoro-Azobenzene belongs to the chemical class of azobenzenes, which are aromatic compounds with two benzene rings fused together with a nitrogen atom in between. This molecule has three possible isomers: 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-. The most common form of this compound is the 1,2-isomer. When it reacts with hypobromous acid (HOBr), it produces a yellowish brown compound that has been characterized by X-ray crystallography.
