3-Fluoroisonicotinamide is a potent inhibitor of the human organic cation transporter (hOCT) and the hOCT2. It inhibits the voltage-gated potassium channels, which are responsible for maintaining the membrane potential in cells. 3-Fluoroisonicotinamide also blocks Na+ channels and prevents intracellular acidification by inhibiting pyridinecarboxylic acid transporters. 3-Fluoroisonicotinamide has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of pyrazole derivatives, such as pyrazole, which is used as an antifungal agent against Candida albicans.
