2-Fluoroethyl (methyl) ether is a solvent that belongs to the group of fluorinated hydrocarbons. It is a colorless liquid with a viscosity of 0.8-1.2 cP at 25 °C and boiling point of 41 °C. The compound has a high solubility in water and low solubility in organic solvents such as acetone and tetrahydrofuran. 2-Fluoroethyl (methyl) ether is also known for its conformational stability, which makes it an excellent solvent for the study of other molecules that are sensitive to temperature or pressure changes.
2-Fluoroethyl (methyl) ether has been shown to react with methanesulphonic acid to form ethylene, hydrogen, and sulphur dioxide gases. This reaction occurs through nucleophilic attack on the electrophilic sulphonate ion by the electron pair on the methyl group, resulting in an intramolecular hydrogen
