9-Fluoro-7-Methylbenz[a]Anthracene is an electron donating compound that can be used in the laboratory to initiate the formation of skin tumors in mice. 9-Fluoro-7-Methylbenz[a]Anthracene is a potent carcinogen, which is linked to its ability to form reactive oxygen species that react with DNA. 9-Fluoro-7-Methylbenz[a]Anthracene is also a fluorinated compound, which has been shown to have an increased risk of cancer. The substitution of fluoro for hydrogen at positions 3 and 4 on the benzene ring increases carcinogenic potential.
