4-Fluoro-1-Naphthalenecarbonitrile is a pharmacological agent that modulates androgen receptors. It is an androgen receptor agonist, which binds to the androgen receptor in target tissues, thereby activating the receptor. 4-Fluoro-1-Naphthalenecarbonitrile has been shown to exert anabolic effects in animals by increasing the production of proteins that are important for muscle growth. This agent also has been shown to have a pharmacological effect on cells grown in culture by suppressing cell proliferation, as well as inhibiting the binding of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) to its receptor. 4-Fluoro-1-Naphthalenecarbonitrile is structurally related to other nonsteroidal ligands that act as androgen receptor modulators (i.e., selective androgen receptor modulators).
