6-Fluoro-2,1-benzoxaborol-1(3H)-ol is a potent antifungal drug that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol. It is an inhibitor of fungal cell membrane sterols. 6-Fluoro-2,1-benzoxaborol-1(3H)-ol has been shown to be effective against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. It has been shown to be more potent than fluconazole and itraconazole in inhibiting the growth of C. albicans and A. niger. The observed activity is due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, which is a major component in the fungal cell membrane structure.
